Copeland Research is owned by Julie S. Copeland. Julie has more than thirty years of experience in Democratic politics and fifteen years doing self and opposition research for caucuses, candidates and committees across the country.

Before launching a business in opposition research, Copeland played major roles in seven statewide campaigns in Virginia, including directing the 1996 Coordinated Campaign for Clinton/Gore and U.S. Senate candidate Mark Warner.  She was Chief of Staff to Lieutenant Governor Don Beyer for four years, and played critical roles on his 1989, 1993 and 1997 statewide campaigns.

From 1997 through 2002, Copeland served as the Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus Director, responsible for policy development, candidate recruitment, fundraising and election efforts.  In 2014, Copeland was the founding Executive Director of Emerge Virginia and trained more than 200 Democratic women to run for office in  six years. In that time, Emerge Virginia helped elect an historic number of Emerge alumnae to the General Assembly in 2017. From 2019 through 2022, Copeland was Director of Client Services with Campaign X Collective, delivering direct mail and, in 2022, opposition research strategic communications to candidates and caucuses across the country.
